This is my story
Let Start At the Beginning...
I grew up working as a lifeguard during the summers. Those were magical days that got me in the habit of wanting to be outdoors all day long in the summers.
After graduation high school, I went to collage and life guarding wasn’t going to pay the bills so I got a job as an office girl salesman. It was a good job, paid me hourly to work in the store and I got a small commission on every cell phones I sold. At the time cell phones were new, there wasn’t a lot of competition and so I had a lot of business coming in. It was a really decent first job.
Felt stuck in a 9-5 job
However, I started paying attention to all the outside sales reps that worked for the same company. They would come and go as they pleased, didn’t get paid hourly but sold the same amount of phones and make 7 x more then I was working in the store. I began to become unsettled, here I was slaving away, tied to a desk and a store 9-6 every day and making pennies compared to these other reps. And on top of that I had to work holidays and they didn’t!
So there I was with a really good job at the time but barely able to pay my bills and I had absolutely no freedom. I couldn’t spend time with my family when I wanted, I couldn’t go out of town when my friends planned a fun road trip, was never outside when the sun was shining I could only see the sun through a store window, and I barely had enough money to survive. It was then and there I decided the 9-5 job thing was not going to be for me!
A taste of freedom
I decided to make a change and took a risk. I left the office girl position and started with outside sales and the first month I made 10x more then what I was making as an hourly +commission office rep. I made so much money that first month I was able to buy my first car at 19 and paid cash. It was then and there that I got a taste of being free, of setting my own hours and being paid for my own work effort rather then having a boss or supervisor determine how much I was worth.
I’ve been self-employed ever since. I’ve tried taking a few jobs in between various business ventures but have never lasted longer then 2 months! Ha!
Times change
Over the last several years, I’ve started a few different kinds of business ventures. I’ve done sales, I’ve started a marketing company, opened a retail franchise, rental properties and even launched a network marketing company internationally. But with the old way of business changing and everything switching to online and social media I knew I needed to make a pivot in some of my business endeavors. As time marches on some of my traditional businesses were producing less and less and I was working more and more. I had a lifestyle I was accustomed to with complete time freedom and for the most part passive income. I knew I needed to update some of my skills, mentalities, and business models.
From traditional to social
I had seen the success of other entrepreneurs online, and it started to really spark my interest. So I started to learn. I would listen to podcasts, read books, and started connecting with other online entrepreneurs. I knew if these people can do it then so can I! Social media is filled with seemingly successful people and to be honest it didn’t seem like it was that hard.
I like that these bloggers/influencers/entrepreneurs were able to work from anywhere in the world (as long as they had wifi) and seemed to share the same lifestyle as me. Lots of travel, lots of time to play with family and friends and in complete control of their own work schedule while making lots of money doing it! Who doesn’t want that?? I started to think “ok I can transition into this new online social media marketing type thing, this is right up my ally!”
Back in the freakin grind!
So I gave it my best shot. Jumped in with both feet and did it all. Started blogging, started “influencing” and sharing products, LTK started creating engaging content. Did reels, giveaways, stories and collaborations with other online creative’s and brand deals. But the more I did it, the more I started to feel overwhelmed and exhausted. Social media had become a full time thing. It doesn’t just hold regular office ours of 9-5. Its way worse! Its 24/7 … 365 days a year and requires relentless attention. Commenting, engaging, replying, liking, posting… finding deals, shopping, more pictures, and on and on and on! Plus once you gain a little bit of traction and momentum, algorithm change and its like back to square one. Not only did I start to feel a little out of control but I started to realize that in THIS business I really didn’t have any control. I could pump out content all day long and no guarantee the algorithm would like me that day and share it with my audience.
Plus I stated to feel really un-authentic, trying to put things out there that people would like, view, buy…. This really wasn’t me… I felt like a used car salesman and a dancing monkey combined. And decided maybe this online business thing just isn’t for me. I felt defeated.
Turning Point
Then something shifted. I took a step back and started to think about who I am and what I value. Why on earth was I trying to be like everyone else?
That dancing money gig just isn’t for me, no offense to any of them out there I have tremendous respect for the amount of work they put in and what they have created. Hats off to them!! But that just isn’t me. I don’t want to be a dancing monkey, I don’t want to play the business guessing game. I don’t want to be plugged in to social media all day long! Plus I want something that I know will work.
I wanted to take this online business and see the return on my efforts which wasn’t really happening. So I did what every entrepreneur has to do at some point in their career, and I started investing and I signed up for an online business coach that could show me what an actual online business looked like instead of the guessing game I was playing.
Finally I found it
I wanted to find something that had a business model, that had equations, that had a tested ROI. I wanted something that would give me my time freedom back and allowed me to be true to who I am. That’s when I found online courses. A light bulb when off… BRILLIANT! I could share with the world knowledge, information, and skills I have developed and learned all from the comfort of my home. No work traveling would be involved, and more fun traveling would be back into my life. I could make an impact and increase my income while scaling back my online work load and presence. It has literally become a dream come true and I finally found my niche!
Now, I am obsessed with showing dreamers and realists how to break free from the daily grind by creating their very own automated online courses.
